Perplexity AI and Plagiarism Issues

Perplexity AI has introduced a revenue-sharing model for publishers following plagiarism accusations. The agreement promises a “double-digit percentage” revenue share across all participating publishers.

Major media outlets including WordPress, TIME, Der Spiegel, and Fortune have already signed up for this program. Perplexity will offer a flat rate for each cited link on its platform.

The initiative, launched after more than a month of controversy, aims to provide financial compensation to content creators referenced by AI search engine Perplexity. The plan intends to balance the use of editorial content with rightful revenue distribution.

Google's Efforts Against Deepfake Pornography

Google is rolling out new online safety features that make it easier to remove explicit deepfakes from Search and prevent them from appearing high up in search results. Google updated its plans for dealing with explicit fake images popping up in searches and downranking the sites that create them.

Google starts downranking more non-consensual intimate imagery in searches, but won't downrank top deepfake porn sites unless victims mass report.

Meta's AI Investment Strategy

Meta’s business is continuing to print money even as it spends heavily on AI. Zuckerberg warned investors to not expect returns from the company’s investments in Llama anytime soon.

Meta AI is on pace to become the most popular AI assistant, the youths like Facebook again, and Reality Labs continues to burn money. Mark Zuckerberg's Meta is going to spend even more on building its AI capacity over the rest of the year, he said. Investors cheered.

ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode Launch

ChatGPT is back with a new voice for its Advanced Voice Mode after a controversy involving Scarlett Johansson. The Advanced Voice Mode demo is now available.

OpenAI has begun rolling out this new feature to a small number of paid users, enabling real-time, more natural conversations.

The release was delayed due to the controversy but is now accessible on mobile with limited access.

AI and Job Displacement Concerns

AI is reducing the need for software engineers, prompting them to adapt and enhance their skills beyond just coding to maintain relevance in an AI-dominated era.

Tech leaders like Sam Altman propose universal basic income (UBI) as a potential solution to mitigate job displacement caused by the advancements in artificial intelligence.

The rapid growth of generative AI is straining the US grid, with massive demands for water and energy posing significant challenges to its capacity.
