Copyright Infringement Claims Against AI Music Generators
US record labels have filed lawsuits against AI music generators Suno and Udio, alleging copyright infringement. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and major players like Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Warner Records claim these AI platforms trained on their artists’ work without obtaining permission.
Music industry giants, including Sony, Universal, and Warner, accuse Suno and Udio of stealing protected works to develop their models. Labels assert that the AI music generators have violated their copyright "en masse," causing significant concern within the industry about the use of generative AI in music production.
Apple and Meta AI Partnership Discussions
Apple has reportedly held discussions with Meta about integrating the social media giant's AI model, Llama 2, into iOS 18. This would be part of Apple's Intelligence feature set. If successful, this partnership could bring advanced AI capabilities to iPhones.
However, there are conflicting reports on the status of these discussions. The Wall Street Journal suggests that Apple rejected the proposal to bring Meta's AI chatbot to iOS 18. Privacy concerns have been cited as a potential reason for the decision.
Given the tense relationship between Apple and Meta, fueled by past clashes over privacy and app policies, a partnership would be unexpected. Whether or not these discussions will materialize into a concrete deal remains uncertain.
Educational Use of AI
Google is responsibly bringing Gemini to teen students using their school accounts to help them learn confidently and empowering educators to enhance their impact with AI tools and more.
Google for Education tools, including Chromebooks and Google Workspace for Education, are making learning more personal, connecting across platforms and products, and supporting safe and inclusive education.
Apple's AI Developments and Challenges in EU
Apple has warned that upcoming AI features will need to be delayed in the European Union due to regulatory curbs on big tech. The company's announcement comes amidst concerns raised by the European Commission that its App Store is in violation of antitrust rules. This situation may lead to a hefty fine unless Apple modifies its business terms to comply with the Digital Markets Act.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Apple is reportedly in talks with Meta to integrate the social media giant's generative AI tech into iOS 18. This collaboration could have significant implications for AI privacy. As analysts at Wedbush suggest, Apple's advancements in artificial intelligence position it as a leader in consumer AI, potentially driving a major iPhone upgrade cycle.
