OpenAI introduces SearchGPT, a new search engine with natural language summaries. Anthropic's web crawler faces criticism from iFixit for disrupting their website. SAG-AFTRA strikes for stronger AI protections.

OpenAI vs. Google in AI Search

OpenAI has unveiled SearchGPT, its latest foray into the search engine market, challenging Google’s dominance. The new tool offers natural language summaries alongside traditional webpage links, aiming to enhance user experience and address the issue of AI-generated junk online.

Currently, SearchGPT is accessible to a limited user base, primarily publishers, with a wait list for others interested in testing it. This move signifies a significant shift in the AI and search landscape, marking OpenAI's strategic expansion.

Anthropic's Web Scraping Debacle

Anthropic's ClaudeBot web crawler is reportedly violating iFixit's Terms of Use by aggressively hammering their website. iFixit claims the bot has been causing significant disruptions.

iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens publicly questioned Anthropic on social media, asking why the company’s bot was clogging up servers without permission. Wiens highlighted the bot hit their servers "a million times in 24 hours."

Mark Zuckerberg on Open Source AI

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has advocated for open-source AI development, asserting it as a strategic advantage for the United States against China. He argued that closing off AI models would not effectively prevent Chinese access, given their capacity for technology acquisition.

Elon Musk agreed with Zuckerberg, praising his initiative for open-sourcing Meta’s latest AI model, acknowledging, "Zuck does deserve credit."

Zuckerberg criticized Apple for restricting Meta’s services through their closed-sourced systems, emphasizing the need for open-source AI to secure a positive future.

Video Game Actors Going on Strike

SAG-AFTRA has announced a strike for performers under its Interactive Media Agreement, which covers around 2,600 video game voice actors and motion capture performers working with Activision, Electronic Arts, WB Games, and more.

SAG-AFTRA members are going on strike against video game companies, seeking stronger AI protections in its next Interactive Media Agreement.

Elon Musk's AI Ambitions

Elon Musk asserts that xAI is training “most powerful AI by every metric,” despite potential issues with electrical power contracts.

Bets are on Tesla's Dojo supercomputer, with Musk indicating a strong bid to rival Nvidia in AI chips. The commitment was reiterated in a recent earnings call.

Musk acknowledged Mark Zuckerberg's efforts, stating, "It is impressive and Zuck does deserve credit" for Meta's latest open-source AI model.

Tesla aims to bring humanoid robots to market by 2025, according to Elon Musk. The EV giant plans to deploy these robots next year.
