Meta has announced that it will pause plans to train its AI systems using data from users in the European Union and the U.K. This decision follows strong pushback from Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC), Meta's primary regulatory authority in the EU.
The DPC advised Meta to delay training its large language models (LLMs) on public user information due to concerns over data protection. In response, Meta has postponed the launch of its AI models in Europe.
Apple and OpenAI Partnership
Apple and OpenAI announced a landmark partnership this week to ingrain ChatGPT into every new iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The agreement has obvious benefits for Apple, giving it the best AI chatbot on the market. However, Apple will not pay OpenAI to use ChatGPT; instead, pushing OpenAI’s brand to hundreds of millions is seen as more valuable.
While Apple relies on Google’s cloud network and AI chips to bolster its AI capabilities, no financial terms are involved in this collaboration for now. The partnership is not expected to generate significant revenue for either company at this stage, according to people familiar with the deal.
